Team Coaching for Distributed Teams

“When people come together and set aside their individual needs for the good of the whole, they can accomplish the impossible - cohesive teams get more done in less time with less cost”

-Patrick Lencioni, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team

Advances in collaboration technology have made it easier than ever to assemble a team of rock stars from anywhere in the world. While advantages abound, distributed teams also experience a unique set of challenges.

Distributed Team Challenges

  • When team members no longer have the “water cooler” to foster casual interactions, relationships can often become shallow and transactional. These types of relationship are a breeding ground for resentment and negative assumptions.

  • Without a centralized work-site to reinforce a sense of cultural identity, team members often lose sight of the collective norms and values of the team and larger organization.

  • Disengaged employees lack the willingness to exert the emotional labor required to improve and innovate.

When team members are working from different locations, the signs of disengagement can go unnoticed by leadership. Often, even team members fail to notice their own subtle shifts toward disengagement.

My 3-phase team coaching framework is a powerful and proven method to support distributed teams seeking to improve culture, strengthen relationships, and reduce friction.

Here’s How it Works

Phase 1: Assessment

Through stakeholder interviews and best-in-class assessment tools, we’ll identify and prioritize the most critical challenges and opportunities facing your team.

I am licensed and certified to administer and interpret a variety of individual and 360 assessments, including the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Emotional Intelligence Inventory (EQ-i 2.0).

Phase 2: Coaching

In addition to group sessions, I partner with each team member one-on-one to identify the unique assets they bring to the team. Together we co-create strategies to improve performance at the individual and team level, by excavating untapped resources and translating learnings and insights into actionable objectives and tangible success.

As an experienced and certified professional coach, I’m able to quickly build trust and rapport with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.

Phase 3: Re-Assessment & Celebration

Following the coaching phase, I re-assess to quantify the impact of the engagement and debrief with the team. This is the highlight of the team coaching process, where we collectively celebrate team and individual success!

Since team development is a journey and not a destination, we’ll also identify key areas of opportunity for the team to focus on going forward.
